Allá por 1984, una por entonces joven pareja, Carmen y Nacho, emprendimos lo que iba a ser el proyecto de nuestras vidas, primero una escuela de español para extranjeros, la primera de Granada, pero muy pronto también un centro flamenco.
Granada y más concretamente los barrios del Sacromonte y el Albaicín, son corazón y cuna del flamenco. La Escuela Carmen de las Cuevas está situada justo entre los dos barrios y se empapó desde el principio de este arte.
Nuestro entusiasmo y el del equipo de personas del que nos rodeamos, hizo que la escuela se desarrollara en los dos sentidos: español y flamenco.
En el español hemos ido creciendo en oferta y especialización, somos miembros fundadores de las principales asociaciones del sector como Español en Andalucía y FEDELE. En 2003 superamos sin dificultad las exigentes inspecciones de calidad convirtiéndonos así en uno de los primeros Centros Acreditados del Instituto Cervantes.
Con respecto al flamenco, nos hemos forjado una reputación gracias a la excelencia de los cursos que ofrecemos y a la del profesorado y artistas que los imparten. El Carmen de las Cuevas es lugar de encuentro de artistas y aficionados al flamenco. Impartimos cursos de las diferentes disciplinas: baile, guitarra, cante, compás… y de todos los niveles, incluso profesional.
Así hemos conseguido construir lo que hoy en día es posible la primera y única escuela en el mundo que ofrece un amplio programa de calidad tanto de la lengua española como del arte flamenco.
Después de tantos años en la brecha seguimos innovando, ahora con las clases online e híbridas. Nos gusta avanzar con los nuevos tiempos y transformar los desafíos en oportunidades.

Why a Spanish and flamenco school?
Back in 1984, a young couple, Carmen and Nacho, started what was to be the project of our lives, first a Spanish school for foreigners, the first in Granada, but very soon also a flamenco center.
Granada, and more specifically the Sacromonte and Albaicín neighborhoods, are the heart and cradle of flamenco. The Carmen de las Cuevas School is located right in between of the two neighborhoods and was steeped in this art from the beginning.
Our enthusiasm and that of the team of people we surround ourselves with, made the school grow in both areas: Spanish and Flamenco.
In Spanish we have grown in offer and specialization, we are founding members of the main associations in the sector such as Spanish in Andalusia and FEDELE. In 2003 we passed the demanding quality inspections without difficulty, thus becoming one of the first Accredited Centers of the Cervantes Institute.
With regards to flamenco, we have built a reputation for ourselves thanks to the excellence of the courses we offer and the teachers and artists who teach them. El Carmen de las Cuevas is a meeting place for artists and flamenco fans. We teach courses in different disciplines: dance, guitar, singing, compás… and at all levels, including professional.
This is how we have managed to build what is today probably the first and only school in the world that offers an extensive quality program of both the Spanish language and flamenco art.
After so many years in the fray, we continue to innovate, now with online and hybrid classes. We like to move forward with the new times and transform challenges into opportunities.

Is it possible to combine Spanish and flamenco?
Most of our courses are compatible in timetables, since in general the Spanish courses are in the morning and the flamenco courses in the afternoons. Tell us your preferences and we will guide you.
