Beginner (A1): you have no prior knowledge of Spanish, or have such little knowledge that you cannot communicate even the basics effectively.
Elementary I (A2.1): you have enough knowledge of Spanish to communicate in a few specific everyday situations.
Elementary II (A2.2): you have enough knowledge of Spanish to communicate in a few specific everyday situations.
Intermediate I (B1.1): you are familiar with the basic grammatical structures and indicative verb tenses, and can talk in the present, past, or future, although with difficulty and with quite a few mistakes.
Intermediate II (B1.2): as well as being able to use the present, past and future, you know when to use the different past forms. Your level of oral communication is fluid and sufficient for most everyday situations.
Advanced (B2): you are familiar with the more difficult, complex Spanish structures and are able to manage oral and written situations (both formal and informal) without too much trouble, as well as understand the gist of radio and television programmes.
Proficiency (C1/C2): you can understand almost any conversation among native speakers and express yourself easily. You have a large vocabulary and can manage the different language registers, all with few grammatical mistakes.
